WAY OF WORKING

Film is structured movement.

Every production begins in the abstract - with an idea of space, rhythm and perspective. Conception does not mean fixing things, but designing a space for movement.

Planning creates orientation. Improvisation creates life.

The real tension arises between the two.

The eye is directed not only at the image, but at the image coming into being. Creative processes are dynamic, often dance-like - they call for attention to transitions and to the shades in between.

Camera, editing and sound are not isolated means. They follow an inner dramaturgy that develops out of the context.

Film work therefore means:

abstraction before shooting, structure before effect, room for the unplanned within a clearly defined frame.
